LYMM 41 - 0 TYLDESLEY
Written by Roger Federer

Tyldesley travelled to league leaders Lymm and came unstuck but were not helped by handing the hosts a 24 point start in the first quarter of the game.

There were 25 seconds on the clock when a poor defensive clearance went straight into the hands of the grateful Lymm centre who strolled over for a try. Within 5 minutes this was followed when woeful cover defence saw the home side add seven points with a try to the side of the posts.

Things went from bad to worse for Tyldesley when, with 15 minutes played, poor communication within their ranks saw the Lymm scrum half use a gaping blind side gap to put in the left winger at the corner for the third try and just after the 20 minute mark Lymm extended their lead to 24-0. Tyldesley were then hampered further when centre Fisher had to leave the field due to injury.

Having given the league leaders a 4 try start Tyldesley began to play and for the last 10 minutes of the half found themselves with opportunities within the Lymm 22, but Lymm's excellent defence held firm.

The first 30 minutes of the second half was all about Tyldesley pressurising the Lymm line. Unfortunately they were unable to break down the home sides defence but there were glimpses of what they can do and caused the champions elect no end of problems during this period.

However, Tyldesley once again blotted their copybook when some poor defensive clearances saw the excellent back three from Lymm return the ball with interest and this resulted in three tries in the last five minutes.

Despite the result there were some performances of note with Adam Fetherston outstanding and Andy McEntee proving to be a more than ample replacement for Andy O'Neill.

Although this was always going to be a tough fixture Tyldesley could not afford to wait 20 minutes to start playing particularly against such high flying opponents. They now need to dust themselves down ready for the next weeks visit of New Brighton, kick off 2.15pm.
