ALTRINCHAM KERSAL 34-10 TYLDESLEY
Written by Brian Johnson

After a weeks break and on the back of two consecutive victories Tyldesley travelled to Stelfox Avenue to meet an Altrincham Kersal side who had only won one of their last five games. Tyldesley however only showed small glimpses of that recent form and slipped to defeat.

Once again a slow start by the visitors saw the hosts take an early seven point lead. Worsfold, inside his own 22, escaped the clutches of the Kersal no7 and looked to chip the fast approaching opposition fly half but his kick was caught by the fingertips and the try was converted with five minutes played.

Worsfold himself converted a penalty 3 minutes later but Kersal reclaimed a seven point lead when Tyldesley were penalised for hands in the ruck.

The home side then extended their lead with a well worked but unconverted try on 18 minutes before Tyldesley put an immense amount of pressure on the opposition line but resilient defence meant that Kersal saw out the 10 minute period without conceding.

If Tyldesley had crossed during that period of sustained pressure it may have put a different complexion on things but as it turned out, with two minutes to the break, a catch and drive from a line out saw the home side extend their lead by a further 7 points.

It was imperative that Tyldesley scored first in the second period but it was Kersal who extended their lead with 11 minutes played when they created an overlap for their fourth try.

Tyldesley continued to battle and put together their best period of play and were rewarded when Worsfold stepped through the defence and offloaded to Pulman who crossed to the left of the posts for a try converted by Worsfold.

Although there were still 20 minutes remaining the score turned out to be no more than consolation as Kersal scored their final try with 10 minutes to play to secure victory.

Another disappointing result for Tyldesley but next week they entertain Aspatria at St Georges Park in a game which is a must win with both sides in the relegation zone.
